2016 ‘Old Vines’ Calistoga-Napa Valley ZinfandelNow in our 22nd bottling of ‘Old Vines’ Zinfandel we realize this wine is not only about an enjoyment of the senses but also a tribute to the magical old vines located around us here in Calistoga. The 2016 Old Vines Zinfandel is a blend of two very special vineyards. The first, the Luvisi vineyard, was planted in 1906 has been the building block of our Old Vine Zinfandel for many years. We also blended in some amazing grapes, planted in the late 1870’s, from the Canard Vineyard located less than a mile away, right down the Silverado Trail here in Calistoga. These vineyards are head-trained and dry-farmed, thus yielding small, very concentrated Zinfandel grapes. This wine displays the classic aromas of old vine zinfandel. Effusive aromas of ripe raspberry jam, crushed plum, cocoa nibs, white pepper blackberry pie and a slight smoky note. The palate showcases rich raspberries and black fruits complemented by a layer of cocoa powder and nutmeg. The texture of the acidity and succulent fruit create a very food friendly wine. This multi-dimensional, complex Zin exhibits the character of these majestic vineyards, truly reflecting the sense of place. Each vineyard block was harvested and fermented separately. The clusters were all hand sorted before being destemmed into small open-top fermenters, and punched-down twice daily by hand. Following fermentation and pressing they were inoculated for malo-lactic fermentation and barreled down. The barrels used were 35% new hybrid French/American oak from the Demptos cooperage, and 65% two to three year old French oak barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for 16 months. 375 cases

2016 ‘Dijon Clones’ Sonoma County Pinot Noir One of the factors improving the overall quality of Pinot Noir in California is the planting of the so-called ‘Dijon Clones’ of Pinot Noir which we brought in from Burgundy in the 1960's. They are known for their purity of fruit and focused structure. We are fortunate that our friends at Robert Sinskey winery were able to offer to us some amazing ’777’ Dijon Clone fruit from their Ramal Road Vineyard which is located at the southernmost end of the town of Sonoma.As this vintage is one of our lighter Pinots this is perfect to drink tonight. This wine is enticingly fragrant with an intoxicating nose of red cranberry, rhubarb, vanilla bean and orange rind. It offers up forward flavors of tangy cherry fruit, pomegranate, and orange peel. Absolutely captivating and elegant!After hand sorting, the clusters were de-stemmed into a small open-top fermenter. After a two-day cold soak, the must was inoculated with Assmanhausen yeast. The cap was punched-down twice daily, by hand. After a gentle pressing, the wine was inoculated for malo-lactic fermentation and barreled down to traditional burgundian barrels. The barrels used were 30% new French oak and 70% two and three year old French barrels and aged 9 months before bottling. Only 212 cases produced.

2016 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir We believe that the quality of wine we produce is only as good as the fruit we start with and the fruit for our 2016 vintage comes from the Gunsalus Vineyard, in the very cool Green Valley of the Russian River Valley AVA. The wines from this appellation consistently show the bright, fruity exuberance of California wine, while displaying the haunting nuance of wines from its homeland in Burgundy. Upon first swirl in the glass the aromas of violets, bramble berry, clove and earth mingle together. It has dense fruit flavors of plum and raspberry with a hint of smoky oak. The mouthfeel is full and juicy, supported by acidity, silky tannins and a subtle hint of oak that finishes rich and warm. As always this fruit was handled to the same ‘by-hand’ treatment of all our Pinot Noirs. It was destemmed into open top fermenters for daily punch-downs which gently extract the flavor and body. After a gentle pressing the wine was inoculated for malo-lactic fermentation and barreled down to traditional burgundian barrels. The barrels used were 30% new French oak and 70% two year old French barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for 9 months. 187 cases produced.

2016 Carneros Pinot Noir Our Carneros Pinot Noir once again comes from the Sinskey vineyard, Amigo #3, located in the rolling hills of the Carneros district just southwest of the city of Napa. This extremely well farmed, certified organic vineyard was planted over 30 years ago and ripens unusually slow due to the oft-present morning fog which makes this an exceptionally prized site for California Pinot Noir.This wine exclaims “I am California Pinot!” On the nose there are berries, cherries, juniper and vanilla oak tones. It is fruit forward with a burst of ripe berries, cola nut and spice. The ripe style of Pinot Noir is reflected by a long juicy finish of red-fruit, light oak, soft tannins and a lingering and vibrant finish. Pair with seasoned pork and fowl dishes; it’s also fun to drink with gourmet chocolates. This wine is just begging for you to pull the cork. 250 cases produced.

2016 Gunsalus Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir The 2016 Gunsalus Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is our first vineyard designate Pinot Noir since starting our company in 1995. We have found this treasured site in the cool Green Valley section of the Russian River Valley to produce some of the most distinct and scrumptious Pinot Noir grapes. The unique micro-climate allows the grapes to spend more time on the vine that allows a variety of flavors and aromas to develop which creates a decidedly rich and complex wine. We hand selected two special barrels for this first bottling. This wine offers enticing flavors of black cherry, plum, and nutmeg with hints of cinnamon. The nose is full with exotic aromas of ripe plum, crushed black raspberry and an undertone of sandalwood. On the palate the wine's rich mouthfeel is supported with fruit through the mid-palate to the moderate drying tannins on the finish. As is typical of our richer Pinot Noirs, patience might be required to achieve full enjoyment. Fruity, yet structured, give it another year or two in the bottle to allow its youthful exuberance to mature and lay down a few bottles or cases and enjoy how this wine will evolve. Drink now through 2024. 50 cases were produced

We saved the last 30 cases for this special release as we now source our Pinot Meunier from the Russian River Valley. So please do not miss out on this last opportunity.The 2013 Napa Valley Pinot Meunier is like crimson velvet in a glass. Bright aromas and flavors of cranberry, cherry, and vanilla bean dominate the bouquet with just a hint of sandalwood. The palate has a smooth texture with nice balancing acidity that gives it a long and memorable finish. How at five years of age the wine just lingers with luscious fruit flavor.The fruit for this wine was picked at 23.2° brix. After hand sorting, the clusters were destemmed into a small open-top fermenter. After a two-day cold soak, the must was inoculated with Assmanhausen yeast. The cap was punched-down by hand, twice daily. Following primary fermentation the wine was inoculated for malolactic fermentation and barreled down to traditional burgundian barrels. The barrels used were 20% new oak from the Allier forest in France, and 80% two and three year old French barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for 9 months.

2015 Napa Valley Wishes Red Blend

The 2015 August Briggs Napa Valley “Wishes” Red Wine is our seventh vintage of this extremely unique blend. Utilizing a “kitchen sink” approach we played with blending various amounts of Syrah, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Charbono from a mix of vineyards planted throughout the Napa Valley. The components of this wine change every year so be sure to sample this vintage and see if it hits your sweet spot!This wine has a deep saturated color of dark purple with rich aromas of blueberry, black fig, spice and pepper. The wine is medium in body which makes it accessible for drinking young and the fruit character is bold but balanced by bright acidity. The finish is lengthy across the palate with moderate fruit and oak tannins. This wine is a big bruiser if you want to match it with a porterhouse tonight or if you prefer it can be aged for additional complexity with another 3-5 years in bottle. The wine was aged in a variety of American and French oak barrels for 16 months then blended together for additional aging before bottling.

Petite Sirah is known for its deep color and powerful flavors and this offering fits the bill. This wine, 100% varietal, has an inky black color, with hearty nose of black currant jam, charred oak, toffee and roasted meat. A solid blackberry fruit core is framed by brown sugar and spice flavors, with tannins coming in on the finish. This petite sirah has an old school style with a full complement of tannins and a long, thick finish, so why not grill up a juicy chunk of beef or rack of pork ribs to complement it. 92 points by the International Wine Review!

2016 Wishes Red Blend Napa Valley The 2016 August Briggs Napa Valley “Wishes” Red Wine is our ninth vintage of this extremely unique blend. Utilizing a “kitchen sink” approach we played with blending Charbono, Syrah and a small amount Cabernet Sauvignon from a mix of vineyards that has now become a club member favorite. This wine is inky in color with aromas of plum, vibrant dark cherry, dusty spices and rich toasty oak. The deep flavors are medium to full-bodied and all mesh well into a mouth-filling experience that calls for yet another glass. This wine is crafted to be enjoyed now or will gain additional complexity with another 4-6 years in bottle.The grapes for this wine were picked between 23.9 and 26.0 brix with a total acid of 0.41 to 0.57g/100ml and a pH of 3.69 to 3.89. The fruit was then destemmed into small open-topped fermenters and punched down daily by hand. The wine was aged for 18 months in 25% new Demptos American & French oak barrels and 75% two and three year old American barrels. The wine was bottled without fining or filtration. 100 cases

2016 Page-Nord Vineyard Napa Valley Syrah The 2016 August Briggs Page-Nord Vineyard Napa Valley Syrah is located just south the town of Yountville in the middle of the Napa Valley. The fruit this vineyard produces is a direct reflection of the land it is grown upon, providing deep, dark, intense and opulent flavors. This fruit is unlike any other Syrah that we have tasted. Dark purple in color, this wine is forward in flavor as well as aroma. Hints of black raspberry, crushed blackberry and bitter chocolate combined with a solid structure and full body. Being smooth, thick and opulent in the mouth, this wine has a structure that will age for years to come. A vintage to remember!Grapes were hand-picked at 24.9 brix with a total acid of 0.46 g/100ml & a PH of 3.69, destemmed into small open-topped fermenters, and punched down by hand. After completion of fermentation the wine was drained, pressed, and inoculated with a malo-lactic culture. Completion of ML was allowed while aging in 40% new Demptos French oak barrels and 60% two & three year old barrels from our Pinot Noir program. Barrel aging lasted 18 months prior to bottling. 135 cases

2016 Calistoga Napa Valley Charbono

2016 Calistoga-Napa Valley CharbonoCharbono is one of the rarest grape varieties in California, with only 86 acres planted. About half that total is here in Calistoga and we believe we source the best grapes from our neighbors here in town, the Frediani family. Charbono is one of the last varieties to be harvested, as it needs plenty of time on the vine to ripen fully which gives the resulting wine a deep fruit complexity and a full, rich body.Planted back in the 1920s, the Frediani Charbono vineyard produces low yields with the ultimate in flavor concentration. The intoxicating aromas include sour cherry, spice, some roasted oak, and a hint of leather. On the palate it is medium-to full-bodied, well balanced with medium tannins that extend the flavorful finish. At harvest, the sugar was 23.8 brix with a total acidity of 0.48 g/100 ml and a pH of 3.85. The grapes were destemmed into a small open-topped fermenter and punched down twice daily by hand. The barrels used were 25% new American oak and 75% two and three year old American oak barrels. The wine was aged in barrel for 15 months. It was bottled without fining or filtration. 135 cases

2016 Ancient Vine Calistoga-Napa Valley ZinfandelThis is our fourth bottling of our ‘Ancient Vines’ Zinfandel. This wine is a product of our continuous search to source grapes from old heritage vines that showcase the beauty and magnificence these vines are capable of. The Canard Vineyard, formerly the Tucker Ranch, is one of the oldest grapevine plantings in all of the Napa Valley. The property was the original homestead of Captain Reason P. Tucker, who gained notoriety for leading the efforts to rescue the survivors of the ill-fated Donner Party. From this majestic site we get fruit from vines 138 year old (planted 1877). Dark ruby with hints of crimson in color, the wines serves up intense aromas of wild strawberry jam, baking spice, vanilla, and raspberry. This is what you call an old vine Zinfandel with a ripe core of fruit and a good backbone of body. The texture is bright and zesty with layered, smooth tannins. The fruit and spice notes are rich and appealing and everything is well balanced for something this robust and full bodied. This is a Zin that will drink well now, but age nicely for another 7-10 years. The grapes for this wine were picked at 26.1 brix with a total acid of 0.53 g/100ml and a pH of 3.66. The fruit was then destemmed into a small open-topped fermenter and punched down daily by hand. The wine was then racked to a special four barrel selection where we used two new hybrid French/American oak barrels and two previously used American oak barrels. It was barrel aged for 16 months and then bottled unfiltered. 75 cases produced.

2016 Two Moon Vineyard Dry Creek Valley Cabernet SauvignonJulie Simpson’s remote “Two Moon Vineyard,” while within the Dry Creek appellation, is located on a steep slope that sprawls across the McCray Ridge 1,800 feet high. This vineyard is especially appealing because of its razor thin soils and high altitude. So high in fact, it is situated above the fog line and begins each day in sunlight, rather than clouds or fog.Our 2016 is reminiscent of a cru classé Bordeaux meaning it is not a big, rich, jammy style of Cabernet but rather restrained, elegant and focused more on earth, red fruit and cedar tones. It has a classic claret fragrance of plum, bell pepper, spice and mild oak. The fruit still is deep and rich which shows its California pedigree but the balance, opulent tannins and mellow finish give it a subtle nod to a European claret style of Cabernet Sauvignon. Best to consume from 2018-2025.After harvest on September 24, 2016, a two-day cold soak helped to gain optimum flavor and color extraction; gentle cap punch downs and pump overs during fermentation completed maximum extraction and imparted the pure Cabernet “essence” these grapes always have. When the wine achieved dryness, the must was gently pressed and put into barrel to go through malo-lactic fermentation. The wine was barrel aged for 18 months (25% new American Oak, 75% mix of 3 years old French and American Oak) prior to bottling. 165 cases
