2018 Calistoga Napa Valley Charbono

Fall 2020 Release
$38.00
2018 Napa County CharbonoCharbono is one of the rarest grape varieties in California, with only 86 acres planted.About half that total is here in Calistoga and we believe we source the best grapes from ourneighbors here in town, the Frediani family. Planted back in the 1920s, the FredianiCharbono vineyard produces low yields with the ultimate in flavor concentration. Charbonowas the last grape varietal we picked in 2018 as it finally attained full flavor developmentand great balance. This is one for the ages!On the nose the wine has a complex bouquet that includes a unique spice character(maybe sassafras or anise?) dark cherries, and dark berry fruit. On the palate, it is mediumtofull-bodied, well balanced with acidity for food. It has flavors of boysenberry andchocolate with a dry finish that has hints of rose petal. It can also be enjoyed with sheep’smilk cheese and salami as well as penne with pork meatballs.Just 200 cases.

2019 Dutton Shop Block Russian River Pinot Blanc

Deliciously dry, yet fruity with flavors of asian pear, white nectarine and green apple
$28.00
This is our fifth release of Pinot Blanc and has now settled into the August Briggs portfolio as one of our favorites and definitely our customer’s favorite for the Spring and Summer. We once again purchased the Pinot Blanc grapes from the Dutton family and one of their oldest properties, their famed Shop Block Vineyard. They name this vineyard after their shop where all their viticulture office and equipment is situated…. Hence the ‘Shop’. This sustainable and dry-farmed vineyard has cool coastal air and moderate daytime temperatures which highlights the brightness of this European styled wine. The color is a straw color with hints of green around the edges of the wine. Once after pulling the cork you get aromas of tart lemon rind and a little nectarine mixed with a hint of minerals. Very inviting upon the first taste and its bracing acidity makes you want to keep filling your glass. A crowd pleaser if there ever was one.The grapes were harvested by hand and immediately destemmed and sorted. The grapes were then gently pressed and racked into a stainless steel tank for fermentation. After primary fermentation completed it was racked into 4 – 60 gallon stainless steel barrels and 2 – 80 gallon stainless barrels for a partial malolactic fermentation. It then aged an additional 7 months in stainless steel then gently bottled. Due to the entire fermentation and ageing in stainless steel the wine is crisp and vibrant with a mouthwatering flavor. 185 Cases produced

2018 Leveroni Vny Carneros Chardonnay

91 points! Crisp & bright with flavors of citrus and ripe melon.
$32.00
The new vintage of Leveroni Chardonnay is always a customer favorite. Crisp and bright, the flavors of citrus, apple blossom, and ripe melon mix with mild oak flavors. This wine comes from the great Leveroni vineyard located on the Sonoma County side of Carneros, just south of the town of Sonoma. This marks the 23rd year from which we have made wine from this acclaimed vineyard. The 2018 was characterized by being early; early bud break, early flowering, early veraison and early harvest. This wine has a light golden color and effuses aromas of poached pear, lemon zest, vanilla bean and pineapple. Medium-bodied, it completely coats the palate with satiny textured tropical and fresh citrus fruits, featuring hints of mineral accents and a long, uplifting finish. Perfect for pairing with any dish that plays off fruit flavors, like mahi mahi with pineapple-jalapeno salsa. Yum!The grapes for this wine were picked at 24.8 brix then whole-cluster pressed, cold settled, inoculated with yeast, and racked to barrels for fermentation. Barrels used were 100% French, with 25% being new and 75% being a mix of 2 year old barrels from the previous vintage. After completion of fermentation the wine was inoculated with a malo-lactic culture, stirred weekly, and sur-lees aged 8 months. 182 cases produced.

2015 Russian River Valley Pinot Meunier

Aromatic notes of orange peel, cranberry, tea leaves & plum.
$42.00
A close relative of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier is traditionally grown in the Champagne region of France to lend added body and complexity to sparkling wine cuvees. We have found that when Pinot Meunier is allowed to fully ripen, it creates an elegant, aromatic wine with pretty fruit flavors, along with much of the silky complexity of its Burgundian brother. We were fortunate to find the Derbes Vineyard located in the prime Russian River Valley which is a great location to grow this finicky varietal. We are one of only 10 wineries in the U.S that produce this grape as a still wine. Ultra-rare!With the 2015 RRV Pinot Meunier, a complex medley of aromas and flavors greet the taster. This wine has exotic aromatic notes in the form of orange peel, cranberry, tea leaves and plum. This wine is fruity, elegant, and spicy. It is moderately full bodied for a Pinot Meunier and will improve with age. It would pair nicely with lightly seasoned fowl dishes, as aperitif with mild cheeses or just as a succulent sipper on its own. Only 205 cases were produced.

2019 Russian River Valley Pinot Meunier

This wine is pretty, fruity, elegant, and spicy, with a nice hint of wood on the finish
$45.00
Pinot Meunier is one of a few grapes that are more well-known for making sparkling wines than still ones. We have made a scintillating dry wine from these grapes for over 15 years and have found the wine to be grapes to be very aromatic much like pinot noir, as well as exuding an exotic spicy aroma as found in Rhone varieties. This wine makes a great porch quaffer, as well as, a perfect match with light to medium menu items. For the 2019 Pinot Meunier a complex medley of aromas and flavors greet the taster. There is raspberry, bright cherry, berry compote, violets and orange peel. This wine is pretty, fruity, elegant, and spicy, with a nice hint of wood on the finish. It is big for a Pinot Meunier and will improve with age but definitely can be consumed tonight. It would pair nicely with a nice grilled pork tenderloin or the always tasty chicken marsala. After hand sorting, the clusters were destemmed into a small open-top fermenter. After a two-day cold soak, the must was inoculated with Assmanhausen yeast. The cap was punched-down by hand, twice daily. 2018 Malbec Contra Costa County

Our first malbec, a Wine Club favorite and already almost gone...
$35.00
Over the last 5 to 10 years we have received more requests from customers to produce aMalbec compared to any other varietal. While we have looked long and far for a vineyardto fulfill this demand, we came up empty. Finally in 2018 Matt was able to secure a smallblock of approximately 2 tons of Malbec from a long forgotten and remote vineyard in thetown of Knightsen from the Cecchini family. This site offers the hot, sunny and dry weatherthat Malbec thrives in. This perfect climate can bring the grape to a very deep color and itthen exhibits a rich, dark, and juicy flavor. For this first vintage this wine seduces you from the time the cork is pulled. Layers of aromasinclude black plums, pepper, blackberry jam, dried spice and wisps of smoke. Thissubstantial wine displays a beautiful array of flavors including juicy berry fruits, blackpepper and spicy oak notes that interplay nicely with mellow tannins and lasting blackberryflavors. The structure ensures that it will age for years to come. Everything from baby backribs, hamburgers, and grilled chorizo will pair well with this wine. An amazing first vintage toremember! 2019 Dijon Clones Pinot Noir

Matt's new favorite...only 50 cases produced!
$45.00
One of the factors improving the overall quality of Pinot Noir in California is the planting of the so-called ‘Dijon Clones’ of Pinot Noir which we brought in from Burgundy in the 1960's. They are known for their purity of fruit and focused structure. We searched endlessly to find a new source for the fruit and were lucky to find prestigious Kaufman Sunnyslope vineyard. This small five-acre site on the cooler north side of Sonoma Mountain produces Pinot noir grapes of the highest quality thanks to fog-free daytime sun offset by cool mountain evenings. For our first vintage from this vineyard we could not be more pleased or excited. The problem, we only were able to get enough for 2 barrels! There are forward flavors of black cherry fruit, strawberry jam, plum, and oak. On the palate the wine offers abundant and interwoven flavors of black cherry, plum and savory spices, with a accents of oak. The rich, smooth mouthfeel leads to a perfectly focused finish of complex, supple tannins and a gentle yet distinct acidity. Matt’s new favorite! After hand sorting, the clusters were de-stemmed into a small open-top fermenter. After a two-day cold soak, the must was inoculated with Assmanhausen yeast. The cap was punched-down twice daily, by hand. After a gentle pressing, the wine was inoculated for malo-lactic fermentation and barreled down to traditional burgundian barrels. The barrels used were one new French oak and one three year old French barrels and aged 9 months before bottling. Only 50 cases produced…that’s 2 barrels!

2019 Gunsalus Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

This wine is lush with flavor but has laser-like clarity and balance
$50.00
The 2019 Gunsalus Vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is our fourth vineyard designate Pinot Noir from this meticulously farmed vineyard. We have found this treasured site in the cool Green Valley section of the Russian River Valley to produce some of the most distinct and scrumptious Pinot Noir grapes. We picked the smaller and more treasured N5 block to bottle on its own which resulted in a special 4 barrel production. This block which is planted on vigor-reducing rootstocks, resulting in fewer grape clusters of intense flavor, produces a wine that mirrors the unique land on which they are grown. This nose offers enticing flavors of black cherry, plum, and nutmeg with hints of cinnamon. This wine is lush with flavor but has laser-like clarity and balance. The nose leads with aromas of Bing cherries, crushed raspberries, baking spices and oak. Opulent in the mouth, with luscious flavors of black cherry and blueberries framed by modest tannins. The flavors are very full, with more berries and star anise echoing the aromas. On the palate the wine's rich mouthfeel is supported with fruit through the mid-palate to the robust finish. As is typical of our richer Pinot Noirs we used a higher percentage of new oak to give the wine the richness it deserves. This wine was significantly better the next day after opening. Patience might be required to achieve full enjoyment. Drink now through 2030. 100 cases were produced
